Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s eldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, got her iconic name from an unexpected source—a blueberry. That’s the revelation from proud grandmother Tina Knowles, who shared the story in a heartfelt Instagram tribute for Blue Ivy’s 14th birthday on Wednesday.
“I remember the day that we found out about you being in your mom’s womb,” Knowles, 72, wrote. “We could not have been more excited! We were told that you were the size of a blueberry, and that is where your name came from!”
In the post, the matriarch reflected on the early days of Blue Ivy’s life, noting how family members “prayed together” daily until she was 12 weeks old in Beyoncé’s belly. “It was apparent that you were a fighter from the beginning, and you talked very early,” Knowles added.
The proud grandmother also shared memories of playtime, saying, “You were always smart as a whip. We played Princess and Barbie dolls all the time, and your imagination was incredible.” Alongside a collage of photos capturing Blue Ivy year by year, Knowles wrote, “To say that [she’s] a proud grandmother is an understatement!”
“Even with all of your accomplishments and success, you remain a very sweet, kind, humble human being,” she concluded. Fans flooded the comments with praise, calling the tribute “so sweet” and describing Blue Ivy as “the most iconic 14-year-old ever.”
Blue Ivy was born on January 7, 2012, in New York City. At the time, Beyoncé, 44, and Jay-Z, 56, shared a statement announcing her arrival: “Hello Hello Baby Blue! Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven.
