KNEC Opens Applications For Teacher Exam Markers

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced the opening of applications for college tutors who are interested in becoming examiners for teacher education assessments.

The notice, issued on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, invites tutors to apply for training that will prepare them to mark exams later this month.

According to KNEC, applicants selected for the training will be required to pay a training fee of Ksh 10,500.

However, the fee will only be paid by those who are shortlisted. KNEC clarified that shortlisted candidates will be notified via text message (SMS) and through the portal, where they will receive further instructions on making the payment.

“The training fee will be Sh10,500 and will only be made by the shortlisted applicants, who will be notified through a text message (SMS) and the portal on how to make the payments,” KNEC said in notice.

The training will be a mix of online and residential learning. KNEC added that more details regarding the online materials, dates for the residential training, and the venue will be shared with the shortlisted applicants at a later time.

“Access to the online training material, dates, and the venue for the residential training will be communicated to the shortlisted trainees at a later date,” KNEC said.

It’s important to note that qualifying for the training does not guarantee employment. KNEC will select examiners based on the personnel needs for each exam paper. KNEC emphasized that “successfully qualifying for the training does not guarantee employment.”

Tutors who hold qualifications such as a Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE), Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE), or Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) and are already listed in the KNEC database do not need to apply.
