Operations at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport experienced disruptions on Sunday morning after poor visibility caused by fog forced the temporary diversion of two flights.
In a statement issued on Sunday, May 10, 2026, Kenya Airways said flights KQ739 from Lilongwe and KQ709 from Harare were diverted to Kilimanjaro International Airport as a safety precaution due to reduced visibility during approach to the JKIA runway.
The airline said both aircraft later returned and landed safely in Nairobi after weather conditions improved.
“The diversions have resulted in a few delays only affecting our regional routes,” Kenya Airways said.
The airline apologised to affected passengers, assuring them that efforts were underway to minimise disruptions.
“We are actively working to minimise disruptions to our schedule and support affected guests through regular communication updates and alternative travel arrangements where applicable,” the airline added.
