King Charles Officially Strips Prince Andrew of Remaining Royal Honors in Sweeping Final Break

King Charles has formally removed the last of Prince Andrew’s royal honors, marking the most definitive separation yet between the monarchy and the disgraced royal.

On December 1, the Gazette — the U.K.’s official public record — published a notice revealing that the King had ordered Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s name erased from the registers of both the Order of the Garter and the Royal Victorian Order. A note indicated the decision was retroactively dated to October 30, 2025, the same day Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had begun the legal process to strip Andrew of all remaining styles, titles and distinctions.

The announcement, issued by the Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood through St. James’s Palace, made the break unmistakably clear:

“THE KING has directed that the appointment of Andrew Albert Christian Edward MOUNTBATTEN-WINDSOR to be a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter… shall be cancelled and annulled.”

A second entry confirmed the cancellation of Andrew’s Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, an honor bestowed by the late Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of exceptional service to the Crown.

Andrew, 65, is now officially referred to only by his legal name, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor — a stark fall from grace for the man once known as His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, Duke of York.

These latest updates follow the former prince’s announcement on October 17 that he would surrender use of his remaining royal honors amid renewed scrutiny over his association with the late Jeffrey Epstein. Public pressure intensified following resurfaced questions about the depth of their relationship.

Andrew initially stepped back from royal life in 2019 after a widely criticized BBC interview about his ties to Epstein. In early 2022, Queen Elizabeth stripped him of his military roles and patronages after a U.S. court allowed a sexual assault lawsuit from Epstein survivor Virginia Giuffre to proceed. Andrew denied all allegations and later settled out of court for an undisclosed sum.

Giuffre died by suicide earlier this year at age 41.

The Crown Office officially published the Letters Patent confirming Andrew’s loss of titles on November 3, making his removal legally binding. With this week’s additional deletions from the prestigious chivalric orders — among the oldest and highest honors in the British royal system — King Charles has completed what is essentially a total dismantling of Prince Andrew’s royal identity.
