SZA and Shaboozey are not in a romantic relationship, despite months of online speculation suggesting the two musicians were secretly dating.
Sources familiar with the matter told TMZ that the pair have never been romantically involved, dismissing dating claims as completely false and saying their relationship is strictly platonic.
Rumours about the two artists first emerged after an interaction at the American Music Awards in May 2025. Speculation resurfaced in September when Shaboozey shared an Instagram video featuring a mystery woman, with fans suggesting she looked like SZA. In November, celebrity gossip blog Deuxmoi reported that the two were dating, but later updates stated that SZA was single.
The dating rumours surfaced again during Grammy Awards weekend, where both artists had major wins.
Shaboozey won the Grammy for Best Country Performance and used his acceptance speech to honour immigrants, saying they had played a key role in building the United States. The singer, whose parents are Nigerian immigrants, later clarified his remarks after facing backlash online.
“To be clear, I know and believe that we—Black people—have also built this country,” Shaboozey said in a statement. “My words were never meant to dismiss that truth. I am both a Black man and the son of Nigerian immigrants.”
SZA also had a successful night at the Grammys, winning two awards — Record of the Year and Best Melodic Rap Performance for “Luther” with Kendrick Lamar.
