Jelly Roll is sharing the deeply personal journey behind his remarkable physical transformation after once weighing as much as 540 pounds.
The country music star, whose 2024 album Beautifully Broken marked a major chapter in his career, is the focus of a new Men’s Health profile detailing how he turned his life around after facing serious health concerns.
In the feature, Jelly Roll reveals that at his heaviest, doctors warned he was just “six to 12 months away” from dying. In February 2025, he weighed 380 pounds. Today, he is down to 265 pounds — a staggering 275-pound loss.
The singer credits the beginning of his transformation to getting sober and confronting long-standing addictions, including his relationship with food.
“Before I even got blood work done, I started mental health therapy for overeating,” Jelly Roll said. “I had to treat food addiction for what it really was — an addiction.”
He explained that the same discipline and accountability he used to overcome drug abuse became the foundation for his weight-loss journey. Jelly Roll previously battled addiction to cocaine and prescription drugs, experiences he said forced him into intense self-reflection and life-altering decisions.
Recognizing overeating as an addiction proved to be a breakthrough. Although he briefly experimented with weight-loss medications early on, he stopped after two weeks. Medical tests later revealed alarmingly low testosterone levels and blood results that left doctors questioning how his body was still functioning.
Determined to survive and thrive, Jelly Roll assembled a team of trainers and nutritionists between 2020 and 2021. By 2024, the changes were undeniable, both physically and mentally.
During an appearance on his wife’s podcast last year, Jelly Roll openly shared his goal of appearing on the cover of Men’s Health in 2026. Just months later, that dream became reality, as he was unveiled as the magazine’s first cover star of the year.
Now healthier than ever, Jelly Roll’s transformation stands as one of the most inspiring comeback stories in modern music — proof that recovery, discipline and self-belief can truly change a life.
