Angelina Jolie is preparing to step away from Hollywood and begin a new chapter of her life largely outside the United States, according to reports.
The Oscar-winning actress, filmmaker and humanitarian, 50, has reportedly put her historic Los Angeles home — the famed Cecil B. DeMille estate — on the market. Sources say Jolie, who has lived at the property since 2016, has quietly begun showing the $25 million residence to potential buyers.
Beginning in 2026, Jolie is expected to divide her time between New York and Europe, with additional stays in Cambodia, where she holds citizenship. Insiders say the move is driven largely by a desire for privacy and personal peace after years of intense public scrutiny.
“She can’t get far enough away from the drama,” said actor and producer Jae Benjamin, who has known Jolie for nearly two decades. “The only way to truly take a break is to get out. She’ll focus only on projects that feed her heart, soul and passion.”
Much of the turmoil Jolie hopes to leave behind stems from her long and highly publicized divorce from Brad Pitt, which was finalized in December 2024 — eight years after she first filed. The former couple share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.
Jolie has previously said she remained in Los Angeles largely for her children, explaining that she planned to leave once they all reached adulthood. The twins turn 18 in July 2026, clearing the way for her long-anticipated move.
“I am here because I have to be here from a divorce,” Jolie told The Hollywood Reporter in 2024. “As soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave.”
In past interviews, Jolie also said she chose her Los Angeles home so her children could remain close to their father, who lived nearby and shared custody.
The actress split from Pitt in 2016 following an incident aboard a private flight from France to the US. Jolie accused Pitt of abusive behavior during the flight. Authorities investigated the incident but ultimately filed no charges. Since then, Jolie has remained the primary caregiver to their children, some of whom have legally dropped Pitt’s surname.
While both stars have continued to find professional success since their split, Jolie’s relationship with Hollywood has become increasingly complicated. Her critically praised performance in the 2024 biopic Maria, in which she portrayed opera legend Maria Callas, was widely expected to earn major awards recognition but was ultimately overlooked — a disappointment sources said deeply affected her.
Los Angeles also holds painful personal memories for Jolie, including caring for her late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, during her long battle with cancer before her death in 2007.
Despite being born in Los Angeles, Jolie has long viewed herself as a global citizen. Her connection to Cambodia dates back to filming Tomb Raider in 2001, an experience that sparked her lifelong humanitarian work and led to the adoption of her eldest son, Maddox.
