Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves has spoken out about recent rumors claiming that he secretly married his longtime girlfriend, artist Alexandra Grant.
While attending the New York City premiere of his new movie Good Fortune on Monday, October 13, the 61-year-old actor brushed off the speculation with humor. “Well, that wasn’t the first time,” Reeves joked during an interview with E! News. “We’ve been going out for a long time.”
The rumors started circulating weeks earlier after fans speculated that the couple had tied the knot. Grant, 52, addressed the claims on Instagram in late September, sharing a real photo of herself and Reeves kissing on a staircase. She captioned it, “This is a real photo. Not an engagement photo or an AI wedding announcement… simply a kiss!”
Grant went on to clarify the truth behind the viral story. “I’m sharing it here to say thank you to everyone for the congratulations on our wedding. Except we didn’t get married,” she wrote. “Good news is much needed these days, but it’s still fake news, so be careful out there! So, here’s a bit of real happiness!”
Reeves praised his partner for handling the situation gracefully. “The wedding, it’s a nice thing,” he said. “People did a lot of nice messages and stuff, but Alexandra just did a wonderful job addressing it. Like, ‘Thank you, but here’s the reality.’”
A representative for Reeves also confirmed to People magazine on September 23 that the rumors were false, saying, “It is not true. They are not married.”
The couple appeared together at Monday’s premiere, holding hands and sharing a few affectionate moments on the red carpet.
Reeves and Grant made their relationship public in 2019 at the LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles. Sources close to the couple have described their relationship as strong and joyful. “This is the most fun and positive relationship that Keanu has ever been in,” one insider told People.
Grant has often shown her support for Reeves both personally and professionally. On his birthday in September, she posted a photo of a heart-shaped cake with the message “KEANU X,” writing, “I am so grateful for your love and partnership.”
