Akothee Asserts Brand Independence Amid Family Drama

Renowned Kenyan singer and entrepreneur Esther Akoth, widely known as Akothee, has taken a firm stance against being linked to her family’s personal issues, emphasizing that her brand should remain distinct from her relatives’ troubles.

In a recent Facebook post on September 14, Akothee expressed frustration with the media for associating her successful brand with family matters unrelated to her. Though she did not specify individuals, many believe her comments were aimed at her sister, Cebbie Koks, whose recent marital difficulties have attracted public scrutiny.

Akothee clarified that her brand, ‘Akothee,’ is a product of her own efforts and should not be entangled with the personal dramas of her extended family. She stressed that only her children, as her direct beneficiaries, have a legitimate claim to her brand. “Do not tag my brand along with the family I came from. The family that came from me are the only beneficiaries and have shares in Brand Akothee,” she asserted.

The singer voiced her discontent over the misuse of her brand’s name in media coverage of issues that do not involve her. She expressed bewilderment over why ‘Akothee’ was linked to a breakup that was not her own, questioning how such associations affect her brand’s reputation.

Akothee pointed out that while her name is often dragged into scandals, the positive contributions of her foundation and Akothee Academy, which focus on education and philanthropy, are rarely highlighted. “The rest have no shares on this brand; they liquidated their shares,” she said, adding that she feels unfairly blamed for being a public figure and managing her own affairs.
