Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is expected to be unveiled as the new head coach of Nottingham Forest, following the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo.
Reports indicate that Nuno’s departure was triggered by a breakdown in his working relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis. Forest are now preparing to confirm Postecoglou’s appointment within the next 24 hours, according to The Athletic.
The Australian coach is set to bring several members of his Tottenham backroom staff with him to the City Ground. His first test in charge will be against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium this Saturday.
Forest had considered several candidates for the job, including former Chelsea and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva, and Oliver Glasner. However, Marinakis opted for Postecoglou, who comes with a strong track record in English football.
Nuno took over from Steve Cooper in December 2023 and guided Forest to safety in his first season. He later led them to a seventh-place finish in the Premier League, earning European qualification. Despite those successes, tensions with the club’s hierarchy ultimately cost him his job.
Postecoglou, on the other hand, enjoyed success at Spurs, ending their 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League against Manchester United and securing a Champions League spot. He left the London club earlier this summer, replaced by Thomas Frank.
Fans at the City Ground will now be watching closely to see if Postecoglou can bring the same winning mentality to Nottingham.
