Jennifer Lopez has shared her thoughts on dealing with “challenging relationships” as she navigates her ongoing divorce from Ben Affleck.
The actress opened up during a Q&A session after a screening of her upcoming film, Unstoppable, on November 5, discussing her personal experiences and how they relate to her new role.
In Unstoppable, Lopez plays Judy Robles, the mother of NCAA wrestling champion Anthony Robles. During the session, she reflected on how relatable the character is for women, particularly those who have faced difficult challenges while balancing motherhood.
“I think a lot of women have gone through that,” Lopez said, explaining how she connected with Judy on a personal level. She wanted to make sure that Judy, as a character, felt comfortable sharing her story.
Lopez, who is also a mother to 16-year-old twins, Max and Emme, from her previous marriage to Marc Anthony, emphasized the importance of protecting her children from the struggles she faces. “There was a whole different story [Judy] was living, that you hide from your children, you protect your children from that,” she said.
Lopez went on to say that she didn’t just want to portray the positive, loving mother that her children know, but also to show the strength and resilience Judy had in raising them. “I didn’t want anybody to see me,” Lopez explained. “I wanted them to see Judy in it.”
Unstoppable, set to premiere in theaters on December 6, is produced by Affleck’s production company, Artists Equity. When Affleck was asked about Lopez’s performance earlier this month, he praised her, saying, “Jennifer is spectacular.” Lopez responded during the Q&A, thanking the entire cast and crew for their work, calling them “spectacular and wonderful.”
Lopez and Affleck officially filed for divorce in August, after two years of marriage.
