The Kenya Aviation Workers Union (Kawu) has raised the alarm, claiming that employees of Adani Airport Holdings are already supervising operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.
In a letter to the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) acting CEO Henry Ogoye on Monday, Kawu secretary general Moss Ndiema stated that Adani agents were seen taking photos of key installations within the airport accompanied by senior KAA security personnel.
“Our members have reported that individuals, believed to be Adani’s employees or agents, have been observed at JKIA in the company of KAA’s senior security staff,” the letter reads.
Mr Ndiema said the developments were causing suspicion among airport workers.
He also criticised the stakeholder engagements on the controversial PPP deal, noting that the union’s push to halt the talks until all documents are reviewed fell on deaf ears.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that 16 senior KAA staff members are scheduled to travel to India for further negotiations on the JKIA leasing deal.
On Monday, KAA staff staged a protest against the proposed lease where Mr Ndiema warned that without meeting the demands, the protests would continue, adding the workers were “making an effort to stop the loss of JKIA.”
The Kawu official asked any new investor to “build a new terminal at JKIA and manage it. We are not ready to surrender it to anyone. We will continue this daily until Adani goes”.
