Demi Lovato Plans To Keep Future Kids Away From Entertainment Industry

Demi Lovato says she doesn’t want her future children to experience the childhood she had.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lovato shared her plans to keep her future kids out of the entertainment and music industries until they are adults.

Lovato, who is now 31, explained, “If I had a daughter, I’d say, ‘Let’s study music theory and prepare you for when you turn 18. It’s not happening before then.’”

She added that this decision is not due to a lack of belief or love, but because she wants her children to have a proper childhood, unlike her own.

The singer and actress, who started her career as a child star on Barney & Friends and later in Disney Channel’s Camp Rock, wishes she had a backup plan.

She said having a backup plan is something she regrets not having, as she sometimes feels stuck in her music career, relying on it for income.

Lovato is preparing for the release of Child Star, a Hulu film where she discusses the challenges of growing up in the spotlight with other former child stars like Raven-Symoné and Drew Barrymore. Child Star will be available on Hulu starting September 17.

Lovato talked about the difficulties of being a young breadwinner for her family. She noted how this dynamic complicated family relationships, saying, “It changes the family dynamic when the child is the breadwinner, and it makes discipline challenging.”

Lovato also recalled times when she felt she had more authority because of her earnings, saying, “I’d say, ‘But I pay the bills,’ and what can you say to that?”
