Latto may be in her “Big Mama” era, but she made it clear who the real “Big Momma” is during a recent interview on Complex’s GOAT Talk.
While chatting with her younger sister, Brooklyn Nikole, Latto was asked to name the “GOAT Female Rapper.”
Brooklyn quickly responded that her sister deserved the title, insisting she wasn’t just being biased. “I listen to you the most,” she said.
Latto, however, wanted to give credit where it’s due.
“I mean, I am the GOAT though,” Latto confidently stated.
“I’m my GOAT, and that’s all that matters.” But when it came to the official title, she gave it to Lil’ Kim, whom she described as a “fashion icon” and praised for her timeless contributions to both music and fashion.
“[Lil’ Kim] is going to forever be a staple, not only in rap but in female rap,” Latto continued, recognizing the impact Lil’ Kim has had on the industry.
She also expressed admiration for Lil’ Kim’s personality off-camera, calling her a “queen.”
“I love her,” Latto said with a smile, before humorously covering her mouth. “She’s Big Momma, too. It’s a Big Momma thing.”
Latto’s choice may stir some reactions, especially among Nicki Minaj’s fans, known as the Barbz.
Latto and Minaj had a public falling out in 2022, which started around the time Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” was being considered for the Best Pop Solo Performance category at the 2023 Grammys. Minaj argued that Latto’s hit “Big Energy” shouldn’t be considered in the rap categories. Ultimately, “Big Energy” was nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance, and Latto also earned a nomination for Best New Artist, while Minaj, who has yet to win a Grammy, received no nominations that year.
The tension between the two artists escalated with a social media feud and Latto’s subtle digs at Minaj in her song “Put It On Da Floor.”
