N’Golo Kanté has set a new record by remaining unbeaten in 20 consecutive games for France at major tournaments.
The defensive midfielder has won 13 of these matches.
France recently drew with Portugal in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals, marking Kanté’s seventh draw as the team’s assistant captain.
France advanced to the semi-finals after a 5-3 win in the penalty shootout and will face Spain next Tuesday.
Kanté now holds the longest unbeaten streak by any European player in major tournaments, surpassing Xavi Hernández’s previous record.
Born on March 29, 1991, Kanté plays as a defensive midfielder for Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad and the France national team.
He is renowned for his work rate and defensive skills and is considered one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation.
The midfielder began his professional career with Boulogne in 2012, followed by a move to Ligue 2 side Caen, where he helped the team gain promotion to Ligue 1.
In 2015, he joined Leicester City for £5.6 million and was instrumental in their surprise Premier League victory in 2016. The next year, he moved to Chelsea for £32 million, winning the Premier League again, the FA Cup, the UEFA Europa League, the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup over seven seasons. He transferred to Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023.
Kanté’s individual accolades include the Premier League Player of the Season, PFA Players’ Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year, UEFA Men’s Midfielder of the Year, and twice being named the Trophées UNFP Best French Player Abroad.
Internationally, he debuted for France in 2016 and was part of the squad that finished as runners-up at the 2016 European Championship.
