Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, has been reported missing from her home in Arizona, authorities have confirmed.
According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Nancy Guthrie was last seen on Saturday night at around 9:30 p.m. local time at her residence in the Catalina Foothills area. A family member contacted emergency services earlier that day to report her disappearance.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday evening, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said search and rescue teams were actively looking for Guthrie using both ground crews and aerial support. He added that deputies had checked with local hospitals, but none had reported seeing her.
“We’re pretty much throwing everything at this,” Nanos said, noting that Guthrie is not in good physical health. “She is 84 years old, and that naturally is a great concern.”
Sheriff Nanos also confirmed that homicide detectives are examining the scene at the home after investigators found elements that raised concern. While no conclusions have been reached, authorities said they are not ruling out foul play at this stage.

“This is very concerning to us,” Nanos said. “We don’t typically have the sheriff at a scene like this, but what we’re learning from the house has raised serious questions.”
Authorities described Nancy Guthrie as being of sound mind but with physical conditions that limit her mobility. She is reported to be 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs about 150 pounds, has brown hair and blue eyes. What she was wearing at the time she went missing remains unknown.
On Monday morning, Savannah Guthrie, 54, shared a statement during an episode of Today, where she was notably absent from the studio. In the message, she thanked the public for their support and appealed for help.
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” the statement read. “Our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.”
She also urged anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
Savannah Guthrie has often spoken publicly about her close bond with her mother, who has visited her on the Today show set several times over the years. In a tribute marking Nancy’s 80th birthday in 2022, the journalist praised her mother’s strength and faith in the face of life’s challenges.
Nancy Guthrie was widowed at the age of 46 after Savannah’s father died when the broadcaster was just 16 years old.
