Bristol Palin Opens Up About Facial Paralysis One Year After Neurological Disorder

Bristol Palin has shared a candid update on her health, revealing that she still has a “crooked face” one year after developing a neurological disorder that caused facial paralysis. The 35-year-old former reality star posted the update on Instagram Stories Thursday while doing a Thanksgiving “fit check” with her 7-year-old daughter, Atlee.

“Black skinnies, black long sleeve, same denim shirt I wear all the time, vintage Louis Vuitton… and still a crooked face,” she wrote, giving fans a glimpse into her ongoing journey.

Palin first revealed the condition in January, explaining that it was likely triggered by stress. “I woke up nine days ago with a little weird sensation in my face,” she said at the time. “My mouth was pulling this way, and it just felt a little off. Within a couple of hours, the entire left side of my face was numb and just paralyzed. I couldn’t really blink my eye, definitely had no movement on that side of my face. So crazy.”

After undergoing a CT scan and other tests, Bristol was prescribed steroids and additional medications. Doctors suggested her paralysis might be a case of Bell’s palsy, potentially brought on by stress or lack of sleep.

Despite the setback, she noted improvements. “My face was looking crazy at first, but I’ve already seen such an improvement and started to get some of the sensation back,” she said. Bristol admitted that the recovery process is “a little painful,” but described the discomfort as a positive sign of progress.

Throughout the past year, the “Teen Mom OG” alum has shared her facial paralysis journey openly with fans, offering an honest perspective on the emotional and physical challenges. She also reflected on how the experience has changed her approach to self-image, saying she will never again “pick [herself] apart” over her appearance.

“When I feel insecure, I am gonna remember this and just be so thankful for a normal functioning face because this has been wild,” Bristol shared, emphasizing her gratitude for the improvements she has seen.
