Ethan Browne, the son of legendary singer-songwriter Jackson Browne, has died at 52.
The actor — known for roles in Raising Helen and Hackers — was found unresponsive in his home on Tuesday morning, according to a statement posted to Jackson’s official Facebook page on Wednesday.
“It is with deep sorrow that we share that on the morning of November 25, 2025, Ethan Browne, the son of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, was found unresponsive in his home and has passed away,” the statement announced.
“We ask for privacy and respect for the family during this difficult time. No further details are available at this moment.”
A representative for the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Ethan was born in 1973 to Jackson Browne and model/actress Phyllis Major, whom the musician married in 1975. Their marriage was cut short the following year when Major died by suicide at age 30 — a loss Jackson has spoken about candidly in recent years.
In a 2021 interview with Route Magazine, the singer reflected on becoming a single parent after Major’s death.
“I only had two things that I hoped I could fit together: being a songwriter and a father,” he said. “And I looked at it like this — if I have to only be a father, I hope I’ll know it, and just do that.”

Ethan went on to build his own career in Hollywood. As an infant, he appeared with his father on the cover of Rolling Stone in 1974. He later acted alongside Angelina Jolie in the 1995 cult favorite Hackers and starred in the 2004 comedy Raising Helen with Kate Hudson. His TV credits include an appearance on The WB’s Birds of Prey in 2002.
