Jessica Simpson is celebrating a major milestone — and she’s doing it with joy, clarity, and a whole lot of reflection.
The singer and entrepreneur marked eight years of sobriety with an emotional message on Instagram, sharing how stepping away from alcohol changed her life for the better.
“Eight years ago today I made the choice to confront, confess and let go of the self-sabotaging parts of my life,” Simpson, 45, wrote alongside a bright, smiling selfie. “Alcohol silenced my intuition, blocked my dreams and fed my fears.”
Now, she says, she’s living with purpose.
“Today I am clear. Today I am driven by faith,” she continued. “I’m so happy I chose faith over fear. It was not in the fight that I found my strength, it was in the surrender.”

Simpson — who announced her separation from husband Eric Johnson earlier this year — is also stepping back into music after nearly 15 years away from the recording studio. And she says sobriety is playing a key role in her creative rebirth.
In a recent interview, she told People that drinking actually muted her emotions, rather than making her more expressive.

“The moment I started drinking too much was when I was writing music in 2016,” she explained. “The alcohol was lying to me, telling me I was braver with it. But that wasn’t true.”

She added that without alcohol, she feels more grounded and more honest in her songwriting: “I actually believe myself so much more without alcohol.”
Simpson has been open about her struggles before. In her memoir Open Book, she revealed that the breaking point came when she was too intoxicated to dress her children for Halloween. That night, she said, changed everything.
Now, nearly a decade later, Simpson says she’s living with intention — and looking ahead.
