A photo of actress Sydney Sweeney wearing a Turning Point USA t-shirt has gone viral on social media — but it turns out the image is fake.
The altered photo, which has been circulating this month, shows Sweeney in a shirt supporting the conservative group founded by Charlie Kirk. However, the original picture was taken by paparazzo Jose Perez as Sweeney arrived for Good Morning America on June 4. The t-shirt was digitally added later.
The edited version appears to have first surfaced on TheDailyDogUSA’s Facebook page, where it was shared with the caption, “Just when Sydney Sweeney couldn’t get any more perfect ???”
Turning Point USA, co-founded by Kirk in 2012, describes itself as the “largest Conservative student movement” in the country. The group and its leaders have faced criticism for promoting pro-gun, anti-trans views and conspiracy theories.
Sweeney has recently found herself in the spotlight over politics. Her American Eagle denim collection — advertised with the tagline “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans” — drew criticism from some who thought it was referencing her appearance. Later, reports claimed she registered as a Republican in Florida in 2024, though she has not confirmed her political views.
Despite the backlash, her denim line was a huge success, with several pieces selling out within 24 hours of launch.
Sweeney isn’t the only star caught up in a misinformation scandal lately. Taylor Swift fans recently panicked after a false report claimed the singer had been arrested on weapons charges.
