The Football Association (FA) has confirmed that Chelsea Football Club has been charged with 74 alleged rule breaches dating back to the Roman Abramovich era.
In a statement, the FA said the charges relate to violations of regulations on football agents, intermediaries, and third-party investment in players. The conduct under investigation took place between 2009 and 2022, with most of the cases linked to the 2010/11 to 2015/16 seasons.
“Chelsea FC has been charged with breaches of several FA regulations. In total, 74 charges have been brought against the club. The club has until September 19, 2025, to respond,” the FA said in its statement.
Chelsea responded by confirming that the charges are connected to issues the club had already self-reported following the 2022 takeover by its new ownership group.
“During the due diligence process before purchasing the club, the new owners became aware of potentially incomplete financial reporting on past transactions. Immediately after the takeover, the club reported these matters to the FA and other regulators. Chelsea has since provided full access to files and data,” the club said in a statement on its website.
The Blues added that they had shown “unprecedented transparency” throughout the process and are working closely with the FA to conclude the matter.
Despite the cooperation, Chelsea could face heavy sanctions, including a possible points deduction, if found guilty.
For now, the club’s focus will return to football as they prepare to face Brentford on Saturday.
