Striker Nicolas Jackson made a personal sacrifice to complete his dream transfer to German champions Bayern Munich on transfer deadline day.
Jackson joined Bayern from Chelsea on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy next summer for £56 million (Sh8.9 billion). However, the move almost collapsed after Chelsea initially blocked the deal following an injury to teammate Liam Delap during their 2-0 win over Fulham on August 30.
According to German outlet Bild, the transfer faced another obstacle when Chelsea raised the loan fee from £13 million to £14.3 million (Sh1.8 billion). Bayern were reluctant to meet the new figure, but Jackson stepped in by waiving part of a fee he was entitled to, ensuring the deal went through.
The 23-year-old striker’s determination mirrors that of Benjamin Sesko’s agent, who earlier this summer gave up part of his commission to help finalize the Slovenian forward’s move to Manchester United.
Jackson is expected to make his Bayern debut on September 13 when they host newly-promoted Hamburg in the Bundesliga. His new side, coached by Vincent Kompany, will then face Chelsea in a Champions League clash at the Allianz Arena on September 17.
