Kim Kardashian is facing criticism after fans noticed her daughter North West had what appeared to be a finger piercing during their recent trip to Rome.
The 12-year-old was spotted with a dermal piercing on her middle finger while out with the reality star and businesswoman last month. Unlike regular piercings, dermal piercings sit under the skin and don’t have a separate entry and exit point for jewelry.
Piercing experts have warned that finger piercings can be risky because of constant hand use. Jewelry company Lulu Ave cautions that such piercings “may not heal well” and could easily get snagged, bumped, or rejected over time.
Online, some fans expressed concern after spotting what looked like a red bump near North’s piercing. One person on Reddit wrote, “Oof that looks like it’s infected!!” Another asked, “Who lets their 12-year-old have piercings? My kid didn’t even have her ears pierced at 12.” Others called it “painful” and “inappropriate” for her age.

Not everyone agreed with the criticism. One user defended Kardashian, saying, “Who cares, I think it’s a good compromise if your child wants a piercing.”
The outing in Rome also stirred more debate after North was seen wearing a corset and mini skirt while dining with her mother at the popular restaurant Pierluigi. Some online users said the outfit was “inappropriate” for her age, while others urged Kardashian to “preserve her daughter’s innocence.”
Still, a section of fans defended the 44-year-old star, calling the backlash unfair. “The judgment is wild… y’all need to stop worrying about her,” one wrote.
Kardashian’s representatives have not yet commented on the criticism.
