Chelsea have agreed a deal worth £40 million to sign Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United, making him the club’s seventh signing of the summer.
Garnacho was at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground on Friday to complete the move to London. The 20-year-old forward will now compete for a place in an already crowded attack under new manager Enzo Maresca.
Earlier this summer, Chelsea also signed English winger Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund for £52 million. Gittens impressed in the opening game of the season against Crystal Palace, playing on the left wing — the same position where Garnacho shone at Manchester United since his breakthrough in 2022.
Speaking ahead of Garnacho’s official unveiling, Maresca compared the two players.
“They are quite similar,” Maresca said. “When we are looking for a winger, we like those who are strong in one-v-ones, very direct, aggressive, and can create something. Jamie is that profile. If Garnacho arrives, we will see.”
Chelsea have been active in the transfer market, bringing in players such as Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, Brazilian talent Estevao Willian, and forward Joao Pedro. Meanwhile, Christopher Nkunku is set to join AC Milan, with Nicolas Jackson close to a loan move to Bayern Munich.
The Blues are also finalising a deal to sign 20-year-old Facundo Buonanotte from Leicester City on a season-long loan. However, they missed out on Dutch star Xavi Simons, who joined Tottenham in a £51 million move on Friday.
