Brazilian star Vinicius Junior’s future at Real Madrid has been thrown into uncertainty after talks over a new contract reportedly broke down due to salary demands.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the 25-year-old forward is asking for a significant pay rise that would make him the club’s highest-paid player—surpassing even new signing Kylian Mbappe. Vinicius is said to be demanding around €30 million per year, including a renewal bonus, in a deal that would run until 2030.
Real Madrid, however, are reportedly unwilling to meet those terms. The club has offered Vinicius a new salary of €10 million per season but is standing firm against his latest request. With negotiations at a standstill, reports suggest Madrid could consider offers from other clubs if a suitable bid arrives during the summer transfer window.
Vinicius joined Los Blancos in 2018 and has two years remaining on his current contract. While he has played a crucial role in recent seasons and was among the favourites for last year’s Ballon d’Or, his recent form has raised questions. In the Club World Cup, he scored one goal and provided one assist in six appearances. He was subbed off in the second half of Madrid’s match against Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals and only started the game due to an injury to Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The standoff comes at a time when Real Madrid are rebuilding with new stars and are keen to manage their wage structure. While the club has not closed the door on keeping the Brazilian attacker, the impasse over salary may force tough decisions ahead of the new season.
