Real Madrid has officially signed England international Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, with the star right-back set to feature in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
The 26-year-old has signed a long-term contract with the Spanish giants that will keep him at the club until June 2031.
According to reports from Spain, Real Madrid paid a transfer fee of approximately €10 million to ensure Alexander-Arnold would join the squad in time for the Club World Cup.
The agreement also includes Madrid covering the player’s salary for June and July as part of their deal with Liverpool.
Alexander-Arnold played his final match for Liverpool in a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Anfield.
Although some fans initially expressed frustration over his decision to leave, the defender received a warm send-off when he came off the bench for the final time in a red shirt. His move comes at the end of his Liverpool contract, making him a free agent before Madrid swooped in.
Real Madrid views Alexander-Arnold as a key addition to their squad, describing him as “the best right-back in the world” and the missing piece in their ongoing project to dominate both domestic and international football.
The former Liverpool vice-captain took to social media on Wednesday to bid an emotional farewell to his hometown club and supporters following Liverpool’s Premier League title celebrations. The club held a victory parade through the city on Monday, which ended in tragedy when a car drove into fans, marring an otherwise joyful occasion.
“Perfect send-off. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I love my city,” Alexander-Arnold wrote, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter with the 15-time European champions.
