Layyah Crowned First Female Winner of The Rap Game UK

After six weeks of intense challenges, fierce battles, and a live performance on the BBC Introducing Stage at Leeds Festival, London-based rapper Layyah has emerged as the winner of The Rap Game UK, becoming the first female champion in the show’s six-season history.

She secured the £20,000 cash prize, beating fellow finalists Haydog, CBliminal, and Only Zizou.

Her winning moment was announced at the top of a London skyscraper following an electrifying freestyle performance for 1Xtra’s Kenny Allstar, who described Layyah as “special” and a “generational talent.”

Reflecting on her achievement, Layyah called the win a “dream come true,” adding that she holds the title with pride and intends to make the most of it.

She also shared how far she has come, acknowledging her younger self by saying, “Young Layyah would be proud of me. It hasn’t been easy to become the version of me that I’ve become.”

Layyah credited the strong women in her life, including her mother, grandmother, aunties, and younger sister, for shaping her resilience and determination.

She expressed hope that her success would inspire more women in the male-dominated rap industry, where she believes there is still a “boys’ club” mentality.

“The guys stick together, not so much the girls. There should be more support for the females,” she said.

Her musical inspirations include Lauryn Hill and Mercury Prize winner Little Simz, whose authenticity and storytelling she admires.

Judges Krept, Konan, and DJ Target praised all four finalists, highlighting the unique perspectives they brought to the competition.

Krept noted how refreshing it was to see new talent pushing creative boundaries, while DJ Target emphasized the cultural impact of the show, saying it gives a platform to voices often left out of mainstream music conversations.

The experience also resonated deeply with Layyah’s fellow contestants. CBliminal from Nottingham expressed hopes that his journey would inspire aspiring artists in his hometown.

Similarly, Haydog from Merseyside shared his desire to become a role model, urging young people to stay committed to their dreams, saying, “Don’t stop until you chase it. Never quit and stay focused.”

With her groundbreaking win, Layyah is set to leave a lasting mark on the UK rap scene, proving that authenticity, passion, and determination can break through any barrier.
