Camila Cabello is sharing her renewed connection with Normani, following their complicated history after Camila’s departure from Fifth Harmony in 2016.
In an interview with Nylon published on December 2, Camila opened up about how the two former bandmates have built a stronger understanding of each other after reconnecting at Paris Fashion Week in September.
The 27-year-old singer recalled the laughter-filled moments they shared during their time in Fifth Harmony, revealing that the space between them allowed them to rediscover their bond.
“With space, we can go back and tap into that,” Camila shared.
She emphasized how seeing Normani, 28, in person made her realize that they were no longer coworkers or competitors, but two women each chasing their own dreams.
“It doesn’t feel like we’re strangers,” Camila said, noting that their interactions now feel more genuine and familiar.
Reflecting on her past experiences with Fifth Harmony, Camila admitted that she struggled with anxiety during that time, and recognized that her emotional barometer was not fully functional.
“My barometer wasn’t functional. It was more than a person should bear,” she explained.
She also acknowledged that she lacked the conflict resolution skills needed to navigate issues within the group, such as feelings of jealousy or exclusion.
However, Camila has since found peace with her former bandmates.
Despite the group’s disbandment in 2018, she and her fellow members—Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, and Lauren Jauregui—have grown supportive of each other, with Camila sharing that they often connect through DMs and have a much healthier relationship now.
“I’m in a really good place with them,” she said in a 2022 interview.
