Christina Applegate is being candid about her ongoing struggle with multiple sclerosis (MS) and the severe pain it brings.
On the Nov. 5 episode of her MeSsy podcast, which she co-hosts with The Sopranos star Jamie-Lynn Sigler—who also lives with MS—the Dead to Me actress, 52, described the physical agony caused by her condition.
“I lay in bed screaming. Like, the sharp pains, the ache, the squeezing,” she shared.
Diagnosed with MS in 2021, Applegate now finds the symptoms affecting new areas, including her hands, making simple tasks difficult.
“I can’t even pick up my phone sometimes,” she explained. “So I’ll try to get my phone or remote to turn on the TV, and sometimes I can’t even hold them.”
MS, an autoimmune disease that disrupts communication between the brain and body, has presented unique challenges for Applegate, but she’s found solace in an unexpected source: reality TV.
Speaking with James Corden on This Life of Mine in August, she shared, “Reality television is very useful… it’s on 24/7 in my room.
I know that sounds really depressing, but I just need to sleep sometimes.”
As for her favorites, Applegate’s not particular.
“Give me a Vanderpump [Rules], give me a Below Deck, give me a [Real] Housewife, even Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsay—I’ll watch like nine seasons of that in like two days.”
