Stars from BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing gathered to celebrate the life of the late professional dancer Robin Windsor during a tribute event titled Robin Windsor: The Final Act, held at London’s Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
Windsor, who passed away in February at the age of 44, was fondly remembered by judge Anton Du Beke, who referred to him as “a human glitterball.”
The show featured notable appearances, including Emmerdale actor Lisa Riley, who was Windsor’s celebrity partner in 2012.
Du Beke likened Windsor’s spirit to the sparkling Strictly trophy, while Riley expressed a heartfelt wish that Windsor would “shine down on us all and keep shining in heaven.”
Organized by dancers Pasha Kovalev and Anya Garnis with the approval of Windsor’s family, the event aimed to raise funds for the mental health charity Sane, which Windsor supported as an ambassador during his time on the show from 2010 to 2013.
The evening included contributions from former contestants such as Deborah Meaden and featured performances by singer Marisha Wallace and professional dancers Joanne Clifton and Vincent Simone.
The tribute concluded with a touching video montage showcasing Windsor’s life journey, from his early dancing lessons at the Ipswich School of Dance at age three to his illustrious career on Strictly.
Following the event, Riley emphasized the importance of mental health awareness, stating, “The important message is to keep talking and look out for your friends.”
Du Beke echoed her sentiments, urging men to open up about their feelings, saying, “Fellas don’t talk and tend to keep it to themselves. Get it out lads – speak to Sane.”
Windsor, known for his partnerships with celebrities like Patsy Kensit, Anita Dobson, and Alison Hammond on various Strictly specials, was also the only dancer to perform on Broadway, in the West End, and on Strictly Come Dancing in the same year, solidifying his legacy in the world of dance.
