Pastor James Ng’ang’a, founder of Neno Evangelism, has opened up about a difficult chapter in his ministry when he lost a significant number of congregants after introducing his new wife to the church. Known for his strong and sometimes controversial leadership style, Ng’ang’a revealed that over 400 women, including several key members, left the church after learning he had chosen someone else as his life partner.
Ng’ang’a had been a widower after the passing of his first wife, and his remarriage on June 30, 2012, was a topic of interest among his followers. Many within the church, particularly women, had hoped they would be chosen as his next partner due to his influence, wealth, and spiritual standing. When he finally unveiled his new wife during a church service, he expected joy and blessings but was met with an unexpected exodus.
In an undated Facebook video, Ng’ang’a shared that approximately 700 women, including female ushers, left his ministry following the marriage announcement. He explained that the church had been thriving, but the hopes and expectations of many women, who thought they might marry him, led to their disappointment and departure when he chose someone else.
“When I wanted to marry my wife, this church had a big problem,” Pastor Ng’ang’a recounted. “Several women had been approaching me. When you have an anointing and wealth, women come into your life. So when I unveiled my wife, 700 women stood and walked away.”
The preacher faced backlash, with some congregants criticizing his wife for being too young. Despite these challenges, Ng’ang’a remained steadfast in his decision. He acknowledged the personal expectations many had placed on him but stood by his choice, affirming his love for his wife. “I lost 400 people… I stood and told them to go away; she was mine, not God’s,” he added.
While the mass exodus of over 400 congregants dealt a significant blow to Neno Evangelism, Pastor Ng’ang’a remained resilient. His personal life became the subject of intense scrutiny, but his determination to lead his ministry persisted, and over time, the church has continued to attract new members.
This episode serves as a reminder of the complexities spiritual leaders face when their personal lives intersect with public expectations. Despite the loss, Pastor Ng’ang’a’s resilience and unwavering leadership have kept his ministry active.
