Comedian Eric Omondi has taken the spotlight not for his comedy but for a heartwarming gesture, addressing the public’s concern for former journalist Nasibo Kabale. Kabale’s story, which recently went viral, tugged at the nation’s heartstrings after a video revealed her struggles with mental health and homelessness. The former Nation Media Group (NMG) journalist, known for her impactful reporting during the COVID-19 pandemic, has faced significant challenges in recent years.
Omondi, always known for his larger-than-life personality, took a more serious role this time. After visiting Kabale’s family, he offered an update to reassure the public. “I am in Jamhuri at our beautiful sister’s home, and I wanted to get it straight from the horse’s mouth,” Omondi shared in a heartfelt message. He went on to explain that Kabale’s family has taken steps to help her, revealing that her brother has flown her to rehab for the care she needs. “She will be okay,” he assured her concerned supporters.
Nasibo Kabale’s mother also opened up to Omondi, shedding light on the struggles her daughter has been facing. While her journey has been difficult, there is hope on the horizon. Kabale’s battle with mental health began after her intense work during the pandemic, where she witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of the crisis. Despite receiving a Presidential Award in 2020 for her exceptional reporting, the emotional toll became too much, eventually leading her to homelessness.
Public concern also extended to Kabale’s daughter, with many wondering about her well-being. Omondi addressed these worries, clarifying that Kabale’s daughter is safe and in school. “Nasibo is not homeless; she has a home. Let’s keep praying for her and the family,” he added, emphasizing the importance of support and understanding.
The response from Kenyans has been overwhelming, with many advocating for stronger mental health support systems, especially for those in high-stress careers. Kabale’s story serves as a reminder that even those who seem strong can face unseen battles, and it highlights the power of community and compassion in times of need.
