HBO’s Upcoming Harry Potter Series Launches Open Casting Call For Young Actors

Get ready, Harry Potter fans! HBO’s highly anticipated Harry Potter series has officially opened a casting call for young actors to play the iconic trio—Harry, Ron, and Hermione. The call, which began earlier this week, has been confirmed as authentic by HBO, as reported by Variety.

Young aspiring actors between the ages of nine and 11 (as of April 2025) and residing in the UK or Ireland are eligible to audition for the magical roles of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger. HBO has made it clear that they are committed to inclusive and diverse casting for the series, ensuring that talented performers from all backgrounds are considered.

“For every role, please submit qualified performers, without regard to ethnicity, sex, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other basis protected by law unless otherwise specifically indicated,” reads the casting call.

To apply, children are asked to submit two self-tape videos. One should feature a short poem or story—just not anything from the Harry Potter universe—while the other should include a brief introduction, stating their name, date of birth, height, and where they live. Auditions must be recorded using the child’s natural accent to reflect authenticity.

Although a release date for the series hasn’t been announced, the casting notes that filming is expected to take place in the UK during 2025-26. Behind the camera, Succession‘s Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod will serve as the writer and director, respectively.

Fans can expect an exciting journey ahead as the series will reportedly span seven seasons, with each one adapting one of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books. This new adaptation comes two decades after Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint were cast as the original trio for the 2001 film, following a similar open casting call that saw Grint land the role of Ron after hearing about it on Newsround.

While Daniel Radcliffe is “excited” about the new series, he’s made it clear that he doesn’t expect to make an appearance. “I think they very wisely want a clean break,” Radcliffe shared with E! News. “And I don’t know if it would work to have us do anything in it. I’m very happy to just watch along with everyone else.”

For now, fans will have to wait patiently to see who steps into the roles of the boy who lived and his magical friends. One thing’s for sure—the magic is far from over!
