The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service has issued an urgent warning to students across the country, cautioning that a simple but critical mistake could cost thousands their university and college placements.
With the application portal set to close at 11:59pm on Wednesday, KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Mercy Wahome urged all 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education candidates to ensure they fully complete and submit their applications before the deadline.
Wahome noted that many students risk missing out despite initiating the process.
“Many students have selected their courses and placed them in the course basket but have not clicked the final submission button,” she said.
“Adding programmes to the basket is not an application. You must complete the process and submit your choices before the midnight deadline.”
KUCCPS has, however, assured candidates and parents that there is sufficient capacity across institutions to accommodate applicants.
This year, placement opportunities are available in 508 institutions, including universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges, with a combined capacity of more than 1.4 million slots.
Of these, over 322,000 positions are in universities, while more than 1.1 million are in TVET institutions.
According to KUCCPS data, out of 268,714 students who attained the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above, about 207,000 had applied by Wednesday morning, leaving tens of thousands yet to complete the process with only hours remaining.
Wahome also encouraged students to consider technical and vocational programmes, citing strong performance in subjects such as electricity, woodwork, music and drawing.
“Students should take advantage of the many opportunities available in technical programmes,” she said.
For candidates who miss the deadline or fail to secure their preferred courses, KUCCPS announced that a second revision window will be opened from May 16 to May 22.
However, Wahome emphasized the importance of acting immediately.
“The best chance is to apply now before the portal closes,” she said.
