Kakamega police are investigating a shocking murder-suicide incident in Maraba, Kakamega Central involving a student from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).
According to police, the incident involved a university student and another man, whose bodies were found in the same house. The motive for the tragedy is not yet known.
Relatives of 21-year-old Dariel Jedidah Luvunga, a third-year MMUST student, said they last spoke to him on the evening of March 8, 2026. The following day, repeated attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.
On March 10, relatives visited his residence and found the door locked from the inside. Peering through a small opening, they noticed someone lying on the floor and alerted the police.
Officers forced entry and discovered two lifeless bodies: one adult male on the floor with multiple injuries to the head and stomach, and another hanging in the bathroom, later confirmed to be Dariel. A blood-stained kitchen knife was recovered at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that no suicide note was left and said the motive remains unknown. Both bodies were taken to Kakamega General Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination and identification. The investigation is ongoing. Police have urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
