Detectives are investigating two separate incidents in which students were killed in Chuka and Embu Town.
Police said on Sunday that the two incidents are not related.
In the first incident, Kelvin Sigei, 22, a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Engineering at Chuka University, was found dead in his hostel room in the Ndagani area.
The body was discovered at Rovines Hostels. Police officers who visited the scene said there were signs of a struggle. Household items were scattered, and there were blood stains in the room.
The body had multiple stab wounds on the chest and stomach. Two blood-stained knives believed to have been used in the attack were recovered from the scene.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the student was last seen on Thursday night with his girlfriend, who is also a second-year student at the university. She is considered a person of interest and is currently at large. Police said efforts to trace her are ongoing.
The motive of the killing has not yet been established. The body was moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
In a separate incident in Kangaru area of Embu County, Eric Cheruiyot, a student at a local college, was stabbed and killed on Saturday night.
Police said he was attacked by men riding on a motorcycle and was stabbed in the back. The motive for the attack is not yet known.
The body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy, and investigations are ongoing as police search for the attackers.
