X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, is experiencing a major technical failure, leaving thousands of users unable to access their feeds or post updates. Monitoring site Downdetector recorded a sharp increase in error reports starting in the late afternoon of February 16, 2026.
Data from the past 24 hours shows complaints peaking at 4:20 PM, with over 11,000 reports logged in a short period. Users in the United States, United Kingdom, and parts of Europe have been most affected, encountering blank timelines and “Something went wrong” messages on both mobile and desktop versions of the platform.
While X has not yet issued an official statement on the cause of the outage, users report several persistent issues. Feeds are failing to refresh, often appearing blank or showing posts from hours earlier. Some users are also unable to log in, receiving “connection timed out” messages, and both the mobile apps and web interface appear to be affected equally.
The disruption follows a series of technical problems for Elon Musk’s platform earlier in 2026, raising concerns about the stability of its infrastructure. Service is typically restored gradually as backend fixes are applied, but many users are turning to alternative platforms to stay updated while X resolves the outage.
