Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross are parting ways after nine years, Page Six can confirm. In a joint statement to People on Tuesday, the former couple said:
“Although it’s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible.”
The actor-director, 69, and the screenwriter and stuntwoman, 35, quietly ended their relationship about a year ago but plan to co-parent their 8-year-old son, Lars.
A Longtime Love Story
Gibson and Ross first met through mutual friends in 2014 and began dating shortly afterward. Reports of a pregnancy surfaced in 2016, and the couple welcomed Lars in 2017—just days before Gibson received an Academy Award nomination for Best Director for Hacksaw Ridge. Reflecting on the moment, Gibson said at the time, “What could be more exciting than listening to the nominations being announced while holding my newborn son?”
Despite keeping a relatively low profile, the pair made select public appearances together, including their red carpet debut at the 69th Cannes Film Festival in 2016 and the 2017 Oscars. In 2024, Gibson even walked the red carpet with Lars at a screening of his film Monster Summer.
In January 2025, the family faced heartbreak when they lost their $14.5 million Malibu home in the LA wildfires. Gibson reassured fans at the time, saying: “The good news is that those in my family and those I love are all well, and we’re all happy and healthy and out of harm’s way.”
Gibson is also a father to eight other children with two previous partners. He shares seven children with ex-wife Robyn Moore—Hannah, 45; Christian, 43; Edward, 43; William, 40; Louis, 37; Milo, 35; and Thomas, 26. Additionally, he shares 16-year-old Lucia with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, with whom he was in a relationship until 2010.
