Kim Kardashian’s eldest daughter, North West, has officially joined Instagram, making her debut on the platform under her own account on Friday.
The 12-year-old marked the moment with a blurry photo of herself and several playful posts on her Instagram Stories, where she appeared alongside two friends. In one selfie video and photo, the trio showed off brightly colored hair in shades of blue, green and pink.

North’s bio notes that the account is “managed by parents,” referring to Kardashian, 45, and her father, rapper Kanye West, 48. Still, the move surprised many fans, given West’s well-documented opposition to his children using social media.

In 2022, the “Carnival” rapper publicly criticized Kardashian for allowing North to post videos on TikTok, accusing her of ignoring his wishes as a parent. At the time, he said he did not want his daughter to be “used by TikTok” or Disney and insisted he should have a say in the matter. His comments followed a TikTok video in which North, then 8, sang along to MGK’s song “Emo Girl” with her cousin, Penelope Disick.

In recent months, however, North has continued to draw attention for her bold fashion choices. In October, she debuted a dramatic look featuring fake face tattoos, blue braids, blue contact lenses, black grillz and a faux septum ring. A month earlier, she and her mother faced criticism after North revealed she had pierced her middle finger.

Kardashian later addressed the scrutiny during an appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, defending her daughter’s freedom of expression. She explained that North enjoys experimenting with her style and acknowledged the challenge of navigating self-expression under public scrutiny.
North is the eldest of Kardashian and West’s four children and is already emerging as a prominent figure in pop culture, with her Instagram debut marking another step into the spotlight.
