Alabama Sports Reporter Christina Chambers and Husband Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide

An Alabama sports reporter and her husband were found dead inside their home on Tuesday, December 16, in what police believe was an apparent murder-suicide.

A 3-year-old child who was found in the house was unharmed.

According to a statement from the Hoover Police Department, officers responded to a home in the 700 block of Highland Manor Court after the Hoover 911 center received a call at about 9:03 a.m. local time. A family member had reported finding two people unresponsive inside the residence.

Hoover Fire-Medics arrived at the scene and pronounced a man and a woman dead from gunshot wounds. Police confirmed that a 3-year-old child was also inside the home at the time and was not injured.

While authorities did not initially release the identities of the victims, WBRC, one of the woman’s former employers, identified her as Christina Chambers, a former sports reporter with the station. Chambers was the mother of a 3-year-old son.

Police said that although the investigation is still in its early stages, there is no threat to the public.

“Based on the information available, it appears these deaths are the result of a murder-suicide,” the Hoover Police Department said.

Chambers married her husband in 2021, according to AL.com.

Chambers worked at WBRC from 2015 until July 2021 before later returning as a freelance sports reporter during the 2025 football season. She also worked at Thompson High School from 2021 until early 2025, where she played a key role in student broadcasting programs.

Before joining WBRC, Chambers worked as a reporter and anchor at WAKA in Montgomery, Alabama. She began her sports journalism career at WLTZ NBC38 in Columbus, Georgia, later joining Comcast Sports Southeast in Atlanta. She also freelanced for Raycom Media in 2014.

In a statement, Alabaster City Schools confirmed Chambers served as the director of its Broadcasting Academy, where she led THS TV and mentored students interested in media and television.

“Christina shared her extensive television experience with our students and used her talents on the sidelines with live reporting on many Friday nights,” the school said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Christina’s family and all those impacted by this tragic loss.”

Chambers also recently worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama. Sophie Martin, the company’s Director of Corporate Communications and Community Relations, described Chambers as a valued colleague.

“Christina was a cherished member of our team whose warmth and loving personality touched everyone she worked with,” Martin said. “She was a source of joy and inspiration and will be greatly missed.”

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
