Tamar Braxton has firmly denied rumors that she had an affair with rapper Birdman, who is married to her older sister, Toni Braxton.
Speaking during a recent appearance on Sherri, the 48-year-old singer and reality TV star dismissed the claims as false and hurtful, saying her relationship with Birdman has always been platonic.
“Where did that rumor come from? That is preposterous,” Tamar said when host Sherri Shepherd raised the issue, which resurfaced after a recent episode of The Braxtons. In the show, Tamar’s sister Towanda suggested Tamar may have been involved with one of Toni’s former partners, prompting viewers to speculate about Birdman.
Tamar explained that she actually introduced Toni to Birdman, whose real name is Bryan Williams, and stressed that their bond goes back many years.
“The truth is, Bryan and I were friends first — real, platonic friends,” she said. “He was dating one of my friends a long time ago, and after they broke up, we became close because he and Slim wanted to sign me to Cash Money Records. This was years ago.”
She added that Birdman later expressed interest in Toni following her divorce from Keri Lewis in 2016.
“When Toni got divorced, he was serious about her and made his way in,” Tamar said.
Toni Braxton and Birdman began dating in 2016 after years of friendship. They announced their engagement in 2018, briefly split, and later reconciled. In April 2025, reports emerged that Toni had filed for divorce just weeks after their wedding, citing an August 2024 separation date. However, she later withdrew the divorce petition, with Birdman agreeing to the move.
Tamar said the affair rumors deeply upset her.
“That’s my brother. Now he’s my brother-in-law,” she said. “There’s never been anything inappropriate.”
She also addressed why she was recently seen accompanying Birdman to a Verzuz event, explaining that Toni was unable to attend.
Tamar added that her relationship with her sisters has improved.
“I think we’re in a healthy space,” she said. “Everyone has taken accountability, both publicly and privately. Now it’s time for healing.”
