Steven Spielberg is returning to the science fiction genre with a new alien-themed film titled Disclosure Day, set to hit theaters in June 2026.
Universal Pictures released the first trailer for the movie on Tuesday, December 16, revealing an intense and mysterious story about humanity discovering it is not alone in the universe.
The film stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson and Colman Domingo, among others.
According to the official synopsis, Disclosure Day explores what would happen if proof of extraterrestrial life were revealed to the world. “If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?” the logline asks. “This summer, the truth belongs to 7 billion people.”

Variety first reported in April 2024 that Spielberg was developing a UFO-themed film based on his own original idea, working once again with longtime collaborator David Koepp. Koepp previously teamed up with Spielberg on major blockbusters including Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Legendary composer John Williams is also returning to score the film, marking his 30th collaboration with Spielberg. Their partnership has produced some of the most iconic movie soundtracks in cinema history.
Promotion for the movie began earlier this month with cryptic billboards appearing in Times Square and Los Angeles reading: “All will be disclosed – Spielberg 06.12.26.”
Spielberg’s last film, The Fabelmans, was released in 2022 and earned seven Academy Award nominations. With Disclosure Day, the 78-year-old filmmaker revisits the science fiction genre he helped define with classics such as E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and War of the Worlds.
Disclosure Day is scheduled for release in theaters on June 12, 2026.
