R&B star Trey Songz was arrested earlier this month in New York after allegedly assaulting a nightclub employee and causing property damage at a Manhattan restaurant, according to prosecutors.
The 41-year-old singer, born Tremaine Neverson, reportedly became agitated at Dramma Night Club in Times Square on December 4 when staff informed him the club was closing around 4 a.m. Prosecutors claim Songz punched an employee in the face, causing swelling and significant pain.
Songz also faces a separate charge of second-degree mischief after an incident the following morning at Mira, a restaurant and hookah lounge. Court documents allege he damaged approximately $1,500 worth of property, including hookahs, DJ equipment, and sofas.
During his arraignment on Sunday, Songz was granted supervised release but was noted by the judge to be a potential risk due to prior legal issues. He is scheduled to return to court on February 18. The employee from Dramma has been granted an order of protection against him.
Songz’s attorney stated that the singer is “cooperating fully and looks forward to the facts coming to light.” The statement added that Songz was confronted by individuals who allegedly instigated the restaurant altercation, and his security intervened to prevent further escalation.
The singer has faced legal troubles in the past. In 2016, he was arrested following an onstage outburst at a Detroit concert, leading to a plea deal and 18 months of probation. In 2018, a woman accused him of striking her at an NBA All-Star event, resulting in a restraining order.
Songz, known for hits like “Na Na,” left court wearing a hood and declined to comment on the incidents.
