Comedian and actor Andy Dick was revived after an apparent overdose when he was found unresponsive on a street in Los Angeles, according to U.S. media reports.
The 59-year-old was discovered slumped on the concrete steps of a building in Hollywood on Tuesday. Photos published by TMZ showed Dick bent over with his glasses on the ground nearby, and later lying flat on the sidewalk as bystanders stood over him.
Witnesses told the outlet that several of Dick’s friends rushed to his aid and attempted to wake him up. One person was reportedly heard shouting for someone to bring Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses. Dick was then administered the drug while others called for emergency help.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that emergency responders attended the scene for an overdose involving a 59-year-old man. The individual was treated at the scene and was not taken to hospital.
Later that night, Dick told TMZ by phone that he was alive and said he was okay, though he declined to give details about what led to the incident.
Representatives for Dick and the Los Angeles Police Department had not immediately responded to requests for comment.
Dick, best known for his roles on “NewsRadio” and “The Andy Dick Show,” has previously spoken openly about his long struggles with drug and alcohol addiction. His career has also been marked by a series of legal troubles over the years.
In 2022, he was ordered to register as a sex offender following a 2018 conviction for sexual battery. The case involved allegations by an Uber driver, and Dick was later sentenced to 90 days in jail.
