Zachery Ty Bryan and Girlfriend, Johnnie Faye Cartwright Arrested Amid Domestic Violence Probation Violation

Zachery Ty Bryan, 44, the former “Home Improvement” star, and his girlfriend, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, were arrested over the weekend in Eugene, Oregon, after Bryan allegedly violated the terms of his domestic violence probation. According to court documents obtained by Page Six, Bryan was denied bail and will remain in custody until Wednesday. TMZ first reported the arrest.

Bryan, known for his role as Brad Taylor on the hit 1990s sitcom, was placed on 36 months of probation in 2023 following a domestic violence conviction. His probation, which expires in 2026, included restrictions prohibiting him from contacting the victim involved in the prior case without prior approval.

Cartwright, 36, faces multiple charges including driving under the influence, three counts of reckless endangerment, and one count of attempted first-degree assault. Her arraignment is scheduled for Monday.

The couple has a complex legal history. Bryan, who shares multiple children with Cartwright, was previously accused of attacking her in 2020, facing charges of felony strangulation, menacing, assault, and harassment. Police reports at the time alleged that Bryan physically assaulted Cartwright over a domestic dispute, though he was ultimately convicted of menacing and assault. Bryan later claimed the incident was “blown out of proportion.”

Bryan’s recent legal troubles extend beyond domestic disputes. In February 2024, he was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Riverside, California, and again in October 2024 in Custer County, Oklahoma, for a similar offense and driving without a license. On January 1, 2025, Bryan was taken into custody after allegedly punching a woman multiple times and making threats, though it remains unclear if the victim was Cartwright.

Earlier this month, an unidentified former partner was granted a five-year restraining order against Bryan, alleging he assaulted her in July.

On November 13, Bryan issued a public apology for his latest domestic violence incident, calling it a “painful wake-up call.” He acknowledged the lasting impact of early fame, addiction struggles, and poor decision-making on his adult life. “Fame as a child actor left scars — being thrust into the spotlight at nine years old brought pressures I wasn’t equipped to handle — but that’s no justification for my choices as an adult,” Bryan told TMZ, adding that he “deeply” regretted his actions.
