Is Imran Khan dead?

Amid growing rumours online claiming that former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan has died in jail, his three sisters say they were violently attacked by police while trying to meet him.

Noreen Khan, Aleema Khan, and Uzma Khan said they went to Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail this week to request a meeting with their brother, who has been held there since 2023. According to them, police assaulted them and supporters of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party who had gathered peacefully outside the jail.

PTI said the women were simply sitting outside the facility when police “pounced on them” and “brutally assaulted” them for trying to meet the former prime minister. The party has demanded an independent investigation into the incident.

What Imran Khan’s Sisters Said

In a letter to Punjab police chief Usman Anwar, the sisters described the violence as “brutal, planned, and carried out without any provocation.”

They said they were peacefully expressing concern for Khan’s health. “We did not block any roads, stop anyone, or break any law,” Noreen Khan wrote. But she said the streetlights were suddenly switched off and police then attacked everyone present.

“At the age of 71, I was grabbed by my hair, thrown to the ground, and dragged across the road,” she said, adding that other women were slapped and pulled violently.

She accused police of following a “troubling pattern” of using force against peaceful citizens over the last three years. The sisters demanded immediate action against all officers involved.

Imran Khan’s Current Situation

Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023 and faces several cases. For more than a month, authorities have reportedly banned meetings with him, even as false social media rumours about his death continue to spread.

PTI says Khan is being kept in complete isolation and solitary confinement. His lawyers claim that even books, basic items, and access to his legal team are being restricted. “The law of the jungle prevails here,” lawyer Khalid Yousaf Chaudry said.
