Usha Vance, wife of U.S. Vice President JD Vance, has dismissed growing speculation about trouble in her marriage after appearing without her wedding ring during a recent public engagement.
Rumors began circulating after Usha attended an event at Camp Lejeune, a major military training base in Jacksonville, North Carolina, on November 19. Wearing a burgundy turtleneck dress and matching heels, the second first lady appeared alongside First Lady Melania Trump — noticeably without her wedding band, prompting online chatter.
But according to a statement from her spokesperson, the missing ring had nothing to do with marital issues.
“Usha is a mother of three young children, who does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes,” her spokesperson told People, firmly denying any talk of a split.
Usha, 39, and JD, 41, married in 2014 after meeting at Yale Law School. The couple shares three children — sons Ewan, 8, and Vivek, 5, and daughter Mirabel, 3.
The speculation was further fueled by viral footage from a Turning Point USA event last month, where JD shared a warm onstage embrace with Erika Kirk. Erika, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, praised the vice president in her speech, telling the audience, “No one will ever replace my husband. But I do see some similarities of my husband in JD — in Vice President JD Vance. I do.”
The hug quickly triggered gossip across social media.
Erika, 37, previously spoke warmly of Usha as well, recalling how the second lady comforted her during her husband’s memorial service. “She told me, you will get through these 15 minutes and the next 15 minutes after that,” Erika said. “Those words were exactly what I needed to hear.”
JD Vance also made headlines in October after comments surfaced about hoping Usha — who was raised in a Hindu household — would eventually convert to Catholicism, sparking debate online.
