The tragic death of 18-year-old Anna Kepner, who was found unresponsive aboard a Carnival Cruise ship earlier this month, continues to raise unsettling questions — and a new report is shedding more light on the tensions that may have unfolded before the incident.
In a segment that aired Thursday, Inside Edition spoke with Steven Westin, the father of Kepner’s ex-boyfriend, who claimed his son had shared troubling accounts involving Anna’s stepbrother — the same family member who was later found dead under mysterious circumstances during the voyage.
According to Westin, his son told him that Anna’s stepbrother appeared to have an unusual and persistent fixation on the teen cheerleader, allegedly pursuing her attention despite her discomfort. Westin also claimed that Anna had been afraid of him and believed he carried a knife.
One of the most disturbing allegations Westin shared involved an incident his son reportedly witnessed during a FaceTime call: he says he saw the stepbrother enter Anna’s room and climb onto her while she was asleep.
Westin described the behavior as an “infatuation,” claiming the stepbrother had long wanted a romantic relationship with Anna.
Kepner was traveling with her stepbrother and other family members on a return trip to Miami on November 7 when she was discovered dead. The FBI is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, while the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner works to determine the official cause.
Adding to the complexity of the case, Anna’s stepmother, Shauntel Hudson, recently stated in a separate court filing that a “criminal case may be initiated against one of the minor children” in connection with Anna’s death. No further details have been released.
As speculation and allegations continue to circulate, authorities have not confirmed any of the claims shared in the broadcast.
