Cardi B is celebrating the arrival of her newborn son in a uniquely personal way. The rapper, who welcomed her fourth child — and her first with New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs — on November 4, has turned to a growing celebrity trend to commemorate the milestone.
To mark the birth, Cardi enlisted Mommy Made Encapsulation to create an Umbilical Cord Keepsake, a custom item crafted from the detached piece of her baby’s umbilical cord. The company describes the product on its website as “your baby’s umbilical cord dehydrated in the shape of a heart, and then dipped in gold chrome.”
The gold-plated keepsake costs $50, but it is only available as an add-on to the brand’s $500 Placenta Encapsulation Service — a process that transforms the placenta into ingestible pills for postpartum recovery. Cardi also chose to purchase a Placenta Print for $65, a design meant to resemble the symbolic Tree of Life.

Mommy Made Encapsulation shared the behind-the-scenes process on Instagram, posting a graphic video that showed the cord being shaped with a wire and dehydrated before preservation. The post sparked mixed reactions from viewers.
“It’s giving… umbilical pretzel,” one commenter joked. Another wrote, “This is so gross & so warming all at the same time! Love this.”
Summing up the debate, a different fan commented, “I’m all for memories, but keeping my baby’s fried, dyed, and dried umbilical cord is not one of them.”
The company also uploaded footage of Cardi’s placenta — dyed blue — ahead of processing. This isn’t her first time using their services: Mommy Made previously posted images from the encapsulation process following the birth of her third child, Blossom Belle Cephus, in 2024.
The brand counts several celebrities among its clients, including Megan Fox and Vanessa Hudgens, both of whom reportedly used the same services.
