Kevin Spacey Opens Up About Life After Scandal: “I’m Living in Hotels and Airbnbs”

Seven years after a sexual assault scandal upended his career, Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey has revealed that he is currently homeless.

“I’m living in hotels, I’m living in Airbnbs, I’m going where the work is,” Spacey told the Telegraph in an interview published Wednesday. “I literally have no home, that’s what I’m attempting to explain.”

The 66-year-old actor said that his finances have been “not great” since the allegations — which he has consistently denied — surfaced, though he emphasized that he has never declared bankruptcy. “The costs over these last seven years have been astronomical,” Spacey said. “I’ve had very little coming in and everything going out.”

Reflecting on his career since the scandal, Spacey added, “In weird ways, I feel I’m back to where I first started, which is I just went where the work was. Everything is in storage, and I hope at some point, if things continue to improve, that I’ll be able to decide where I want to settle down again.”

The actor’s career took a hit after allegations of sexual misconduct emerged in 2017 from more than 30 men, including Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp. Netflix subsequently removed Spacey from his iconic role in House of Cards, which concluded in 2018 with co-star Robin Wright taking the lead.

Spacey was acquitted of sexual assault charges against four men in a high-profile UK trial in July 2023 and was also found not liable in a 2022 civil lawsuit in New York.

In addition to sharing his personal struggles, Spacey has continued performing, recently appearing at a resort in Limassol, Cyprus. The actor is also featured in the 2024 documentary Spacey Unmasked, in which he denies the multiple claims against him.

“I take full responsibility for my past behavior and my actions, but I cannot and will not take responsibility or apologize to anyone who’s made up stuff about me or exaggerated stories about me,” he told former UK journalist Dan Wootton in May 2024. “I’ve never told someone that if they give me sexual favors, then I will help them out with their career, never.”

Earlier this year, Spacey was honored with a lifetime achievement award at an event in Cannes, France, where he acknowledged that the past several years had been “challenging.”

Despite the setbacks, Spacey said he is determined to continue working. “You get through it,” he told the Telegraph, signaling that while the scandal reshaped his life, he is looking forward to the future.
